Alan Rough (Roughy)

Alan Rough (also known as Roughy) is one of Scotland’s most capped goal keepers.
The former Partick Thistle, Hibs, Celtic and Scotland No. 1, played for his country 53 times and has taken part in three World Cup finals. Roughy has one of the most recognisable faces in football and is well known for the numerous hairstyles he has sported over the years, especially the perm which made a one-off comeback appearance in 2004, when Roughy lost a bet on the show
His best save in his career was a stop he made from a John Toshack shot in the World Cup qualifier against Wales at Anfield in 1977. It was 0-0 at the time and the first goal was always going to be crucial. Toshack let fly from 18 yards and Roughy just managed to get a fingertip to it and push it on to the bar and over. It was not that it was such a remarkable save but more the context in such a big game. If they had got the first goal, they would probably have gone on to win the game and make the World Cup finals.
