The Scottish Government announced plans for a zero waste Scotland earlier this year with the aim of maximising recycling, minimising waste and ensuring that products are made to be reused, repaired or recycled.
As part of these efforts, people and retailers are being urged to take steps to help reduce the unnecessary use of carrier bags as it is estimated that over one billion bags were in use in Scotland in 2007.
As well as re-using carrier bags, people can take other steps to reducing waste at home such as home composting, rejecting unwanted mail, and avoiding food waste.
