Quantum Of Solace review

Who's in it? Daniel Craig; Judi Dench, Matthieu Almaric, Olga Kurylenko.
What's good about it? The look of it. Marc Forster, the director, is an artist pure and simple. He brings a visual dimension to what is by and large an all-action franchise.
Foster has been given licence thanks to some amazing world locations and a gazillion dollars, to go make art. He made Monster's Ball and turned Halle Berry into an Oscar winner. Stranger Than Fiction is Adam Sandler's best film and now with Bond, particularly the opera scene, he has created a sumptuous canvas. Oh yes and Olga Kurylenko is hot.
What's bad? Too much emoting and not enough wit, charm, or sex. Bond is all about gadgets, girls snappy one liners and cars. Casino Royale (to which this is the sequel) was funny. The relationship between M (Judi Dench) and Daniel Ctraig's Bond practically disintergrates and the notion that Bond has gone awol and maverick doesn't hang true. Plus the bad guy isn't really a Bond villain, he's a geek. The plot is convoluted; some guy wants to hold South America to ransom for their water? Where's the mad Scientist in his evil cave?
Is it worth the ticket price? Daniel Craig is the best Bond for our times. He's really good at getting beaten up and dishes it out too. He's real and the best actor of all the Bonds.
Should we wait for the DVD? No. Bond is the last of the great 'event' movies. Some would argue Harry Potter and possibly Batman but no one gets the juices flowing for an action movie like a Bond film. Blokes want to be him, women want to bed him.
